Congressman Michael Cloud, representing Texas’ 27th district since 2018, shared his views on current legislative matters through a series of tweets. Cloud has been serving in the U.S. Congress after replacing Blake Farenthold. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1975, he currently resides in Victoria and holds a BS from Oral Roberts University.
On May 16, 2025, Congressman Cloud expressed concerns about Medicaid’s current focus under Democratic leadership. He stated that “Democrats have turned Medicaid into a program focused on subsidizing able-bodied adults to stay out of the workforce over helping the disabled and truly vulnerable.” He criticized the Republican bill for potentially embracing Obamacare instead of taking a different approach.
In another tweet posted on the same day, Cloud critiqued the GOP bill as being substantial but requiring further work. He remarked that “Our GOP bill is big, but it still has work to do before it becomes beautiful.” He highlighted issues with the bill’s financial structuring, noting that benefits are prioritized while costs are deferred to future elections.
Finally, Congressman Cloud suggested changes that could lead to permanent tax cuts for American families. In his words: “These fixes alone would open up the opportunity for us to make the tax cuts permanent so American Families won’t once again be the political football for the Swamp’s games during the next presidency.“
Michael Cloud was born in Baton Rouge and currently lives in Victoria. His educational background includes a BS from Oral Roberts University obtained in 1997.
