Congressman Michael Cloud, representing Texas’ 27th district since 2018, recently took to social media to express his views on several current issues. Known for his active engagement with constituents and the public through digital platforms, Cloud shared insights on topics ranging from sports event site selection to federal research funding.
On May 7, 2025, Congressman Cloud posted a link inviting followers to “Check it out here:” here. The nature of the content linked remains unspecified in the tweet itself.
The same day, he criticized USA Fencing’s tournament site selection process. According to Cloud, “According to @USAFencing, their tournament site selection was based on the ‘Equality Maps’ from the Movement Advancement Project.” He argued that these maps are tools promoting a “leftist, Marxist, Democrat agenda nationwide,” which he believes contradicts the notion of nonpartisan sports.
On May 8, 2025, Cloud expressed approval of recent actions by President Biden regarding research funding. He noted that “Thanks to @POTUS, taxpayer funding for gain-of-function research was shut down this week.” Cloud criticized previous use of funds during COVID-19 by saying bureaucrats turned accountability systems into those of plausible deniability. He concluded with optimism about transparency: “The truth is finally coming to light.”
Michael Cloud has served in Congress since replacing Blake Farenthold in 2018. Born in Baton Rouge and currently residing in Victoria at age 47, he holds a BS from Oral Roberts University earned in 1997.
