Congressman Michael Cloud, representing Texas’ 27th District, expressed concerns over various fiscal policies and government spending through a series of tweets posted on April 8, 2025. His remarks addressed issues related to remote work policies in the federal government, fiscal savings initiatives, and legislative budget proposals.

In a tweet posted at 16:02 UTC, Congressman Cloud highlighted the consequences of federal employees working remotely. He noted that while productivity loss is somewhat counterbalanced by reduced maintenance costs in the private sector, the federal government continues to accumulate assets and incur substantial maintenance costs, amounting to losses in the millions or even billions.

Later that day, at 16:45 UTC, Cloud emphasized the necessity of reducing government expenses for the benefit of American taxpayers. He attributed efforts in this regard to “DOGE and the Trump Administration,” tweeting that such measures are vital for achieving savings.

As the day concluded, Cloud critiqued the Senate’s response to the House’s budget-saving plan. At 23:32 UTC, he tweeted about the significant difference between the House’s proposal to save $1.5 to $2 trillion and the Senate’s much smaller $4 billion plan. He described the oversight in terms of “zeros that fell off,” expressing concern and reaffirming commitment to the President’s goal of fiscal responsibility.

Michael Cloud has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2018, following his predecessor Blake Farenthold. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1975, Cloud currently resides in Victoria and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Oral Roberts University, which he obtained in 1997.
