Congressman Michael Cloud, representing Texas’ 27th District, has used his platform to address various legislative matters, including voter ID laws, fiscal policies, and firearm regulation. These statements provide insight into his political priorities and current legislative pursuits.

On April 10, 2025, Congressman Cloud announced via Twitter that the House of Representatives would vote on the SAVE Act. This piece of legislation is designed to fortify voter ID laws to ensure that “only American citizens can vote in American elections.” Cloud expressed that “requiring proof of citizenship is common sense” on April 10, 2025.

In another tweet later that day, Cloud addressed America’s fiscal trajectory, describing it as “unsustainable” and “immoral” to continue accumulating national debt that burdens future generations. He expressed confidence in President Trump, stating that Americans elected him “because they knew he would not accept the status quo” and would advocate for necessary reforms on April 10, 2025.

On April 12, 2025, Cloud highlighted the significance of accountability within the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). He criticized what he described as “backdoor attempts to create a federal firearms registry” and praised the Trump Administration for repealing the ATF’s “Zero Tolerance” Policy. He urged Congress to complete these initiatives through further legislative action on April 12, 2025.

The lawmaker, serving since 2018 by filling the vacancy left by Blake Farenthold, represents a significant voice for Texas in the U.S. Congress. Michael Cloud was born in Baton Rouge and is an alumnus of Oral Roberts University.
