CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating reports of children with high blood lead levels linked to certain fruit pouches containing cinnamon.

The recalled cinnamon apple puree and applesauce products with elevated levels of lead found in certain units of the product include:

  • WanaBana brand apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches
  • Schnucks brand cinnamon-flavored applesauce pouches and variety pack
  • Weis brand cinnamon applesauce pouches
Parents and caregivers of children who may have consumed recalled products should contact the child’s healthcare provider. Children are more susceptible to lead toxicity than adults because their nervous system is still developing.

Symptoms include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, change in activity level and anemia.

In some cases, children have no obvious immediate symptoms.

For more information, media representatives can contact Health District Public Information Officer Brittany Claramunt at 361-826-7232 or email brittanyc4@cctexas.com.
