Congressman Michael Cloud, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 27th district since 2018, recently addressed issues of Social Security fraud and government inefficiency through a series of tweets. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and currently residing in Victoria, Cloud is known for his focus on governmental accountability.
On February 11, 2025, Congressman Cloud highlighted a case from Klamath Falls, Oregon. He stated: "If 12 years was too long, 40+ years is inexcusable. In 2021, it was revealed that a man had been collecting Social Security checks for his deceased aunt since 1977, who had passed away in 1971."
In another tweet on the same day regarding East St. Louis, Illinois, he pointed out: "For 12 years, a woman hid her mother’s death and fraudulently collected her Social Security payments from 2009 to 2021." He mentioned that this amounted to $128,000 in stolen benefits.
Further emphasizing the prevalence of such cases and systemic issues within the government apparatus on February 11, he tweeted: "This is just the tip of the iceberg. Cases like these happen every day because the DC Apparatus is broken and out of touch with the people it claims to serve." Congressman Cloud also expressed commitment to addressing these issues alongside @DOGECommittee and Chairwoman @RepMTG.
