Windsor Calallen was owned by Dewitt Medical District during the first quarter of 2026, according to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Located in Nueces County, this nursing home has operated under Dewitt Medical District ownership since Feb. 1, 2016.

The facility is registered as a public nursing home.

During the quarter, Windsor Calallen earned an overall CMS rating of four, which exceeds the Texas state average of 2.7 for nursing homes. CMS evaluates facilities on key factors, including health inspection results, staffing, and resident care quality.

Data shows Windsor Calallen served an average daily census of 111.7 residents for the first quarter of 2026, accommodating up to 120 beds. The facility does not function as a hospital-based nursing home.

Windsor Calallen incurred one fine totaling $4,823 and was subject to one penalty during this period.

Nueces County, Texas, had three public nursing homes altogether.

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows continued growth in the country’s older adult population, while numbers for younger age groups are declining. Americans aged 65 or older increased by 13% between 2020 and 2024, compared to a 1.7% decrease for those under 18. The older adult population has multiplied extensively in the last 100 years, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study estimates that about half of adults in this group, or roughly 28 million people, may need long-term services and support at some point. The report projects more than a third may eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an educational group on insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
