The 86th Texas Legislature authorized $580,231 for the Duval Courthouse improvement project.

"The 1916 Courthouse, designed in Classical Revival Style, comprises a simple rectangular tripartite building of brick masonry," The Texas Historical Commission wrote. "Duval County’s Round XI Emergency Grant also will address three critical issues: poor site and building drainage, damage of the brick and stone masonry resulting from deteriorating steel lintels at windows and door openings, and outdated and dangerous electrical services."

Duval County requested $580,231 of the $828,902 total cost of the project. The Texas Legislature approved the request for Duval County as one of nine restorations across the state.

According to courthouse officials, the grant will be used to improve water drainage, replace electrical lines, and repair masonry work.
