City of Kingsvilleissued the following announcement on July 29.
Kleberg County Judge Rudy Madrid and the City of Kingsville Mayor Sam Fugate received confirmation from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Region 11 of thirteen additional COVID-19 cases.
The newly confirmed novel coronavirus cases raise our cumulative count in Kleberg County to 328. There was one individual removed from isolation today, pushing our active confirmed COVID-19 case count up to 94. Region 11 is no longer reporting transmission type, but they are reporting pervasive community spread of COVID-19 in our region. All individuals confirmed with active cases are in isolation and will continue to be monitored by Region 11.
Judge Rudy Madrid announced the death of a beloved Kleberg County Commissioner due to COVID-19 on Monday. “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that our Commissioner Zaragoza Salinas has passed due to COVID-19. We are awaiting the Region 11 Health Department to update their report,” Madrid said, “’Shorty’ was an amazing individual and a true friend to us all. His devotion to our senior citizens and underserved population was like no other,” recalled Madrid, ‘he will truly be missed. This is a sad day for Kleberg County.” The City of Kingsville has lowered flags to halfstaff to mark the death of Commissioner Salinas. The City stands in solidarity with Kleberg County in mourning the death of a great Kleberg County leader.
Since March there have been 328 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in Kleberg County and two probable cases.
*Texas Department of State Health Services reported 35 cases on 7/15/2020, but provided demographic information for only 34 cases. There were 35 addresses provided. We have added this case as an unknown individual.
** Chart includes cases removed due to investigation revealing a different jurisdiction and reported to the County Judge on 7/20/20. Cases removed were a man in his 20’s reported July 6, a woman in her 30’s reported July 9 and a woman in her 40’s reported July 16. Chart also includes removed case due to jurisdiction reported to the County Judge on 7/21/20. Case removed is a woman in her 20’s reported July 19.
The Texas Military Department performed 403 free COVID-19 tests at the JK Northway Expo Center Monday and Tuesday, results should be sent out to individuals in the coming days. Free testing is available at Richard Borchard Regional Fairgrounds through Friday. Testing is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Governor Greg Abbott has mandated face coverings in Texas. It authorizes local law enforcement to issue citations to violators after an initial warning. Law enforcement in both the City and County will respond to calls concerning any violations of this mandate. The City of Kingsville has also closed Brookshire Pool, the Flores Park Splash Pad and all playgrounds and park restrooms until further notice.
The Kleberg County portion of North Padre Island is closed to traffic through August 1st unless amended by Judge Madrid. Pedestrians are allowed on the beach to walk, jog and exercise except during curfew hours which are from 8:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. This does not impact Baffin Bay or Loyola Beach.
