Corpus Christi Mayor Joe McComb and the City Council have approved a construction contract with JM Davidson Ltd. for $7.5 million to develop a new, much-needed pier in Cole Park.
Money for the new pier project was provided by three sources: the Type B Sales Tax Fund, the Community Enrichment Fund, and the City’s General Fund.
The Cole Park Pier was built in 1971 and is a famous destination for both tourists and residents who enjoy fishing, sightseeing, and the beautiful Corpus Christi bay. The pier has been slowly deteriorating over the last few decades, and was closed in April 2018 after structural insufficiencies were discovered.
The Parks & Recreation Department, Engineering Services Department and the architectural firm Jacobs Engineering have joined forces over the last six months and are working together to design the new pier and plaza.
The agreement with JM Davidson of Aransas Pass covers the leveling and construction of the pier.
