There were 180 students enrolled in Dr. M.L. Garza-Gonzalez Charter School in the 2022-23 school year, 8.4% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 53.3% of them were girls, and 46.7% were boys.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 88.9% of the Dr. M.L. Garza-Gonzalez Charter School total enrollment.

Dr. M.L. Garza-Gonzalez Charter School roughly covers schools within Nueces County with its main office in Corpus Christi.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
