The Coastal Bend Council of Governments received an $800,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) for a Geographic Information System database.
The Corpus Christi entity will support the development of the database that will study economic risk and resilience in Aransas, Bee, Refugio and San Patricio counties.
“After two years, the Texas coast is still recovering from damage caused by Hurricane Harvey,” Dana Gartzke, performing the delegated duties of the assistant secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, said. “This EDA investment will support the Coastal Bend Council of Government’s partnership with the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, to develop a geographic information system to study the risk and impact of various economic scenarios to accelerate economic growth across the region.”
The EDA grant for the database will be matched with $204,790 in local investment.
This project is a product of the Coastal Bend Council of Governments funded by EDA to bring the public and private sectors together to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
