There were 4,736 students enrolled in Gregory-Portland ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, a slight increase compared to the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 52.4% of them were boys, and 47.6% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 59.5% of the Gregory-Portland ISD total enrollment.

Gregory-Portland ISD roughly covers schools within San Patricio County with its main office in Portland.

Among the six schools in Gregory-Portland ISD, Gregory-Portland High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,362 students in the 2021-22 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
