Taft ISD welcomed 888 students in 2021-22 school year

There were 888 students enrolled in Taft ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 5.5% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 52.3% of them were boys, and 47.7% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 89% of the Taft ISD total enrollment.

Taft ISD roughly covers schools within San Patricio County with its main office in Taft.

Among the three schools in Taft ISD, Woodroe Petty Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 394 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
