There were 1,110 African American students enrolled in Corpus Christi ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 3.8% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Corpus Christi ISD schools welcomed 33,387 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 3.3% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Corpus Christi ISD roughly covers schools within Nueces County and has a main office in Corpus Christi.

Among the 57 schools in Corpus Christi ISD schools, Carroll High School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 91 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
